West Sundarbans

The West Sundarbans (পশ্চিম সুন্দরবন Paścim Sundarban) area of South 24 Parganas consists of various sanctuaries and protected areas west of the Sundarbans National Park. It is accessible from Jaynagar Majilpur and Kakdwip.

  • 🌍 Bhagabatpur Crocodile Project. The wildlife includes estuarine crocodiles, olive ridley sea turtles, spotted deer, jungle cats, rhesus macaques, and the mangrove trees at the confluence of the Saptamukhi River.

  • 🌍 Jatar Deul. A temple stands isolated on a small hill in the surroundings of the locality of Kanakan Dighi. The discovery of Jatar Deul dates back to the mid-19th century, when land surveyors stumbled upon a towering brick structure in the midst of the Sundarbans.
