Malbazar is a small city that serves as a hub for travellers visiting the Dooars of West Bengal.

Before India's independence in 1947, Malbazar was a small locality mainly known for its British-owned tea gardens. The gardens had a few Bengali white-collar employees but the bulk of the workforce consisted of tribal people. After independence, refugees from East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) began to settle the area.

Although not a tourist attraction itself, the city is a gateway to the Dooars region of West Bengal. Attractions accessible from the city include Gorumara National Park and Chapramari Wildlife Reserve, as well as the picturesque villages of Jhalong, Bindu, Samsing and Suntalekhola.
