Bhojpur (region)

Bhojpur is in western Bihar.

• 🌍 Chhapra – home to a well-known Shaktipeeth temple named Ambika Bhavani
• 🌍 Sasaram – an ancient city title has three tombs of Sur kings, a couple of forts, ancient Hindu Temples, an Ashokan Rock Edict, megaliths and rock paintings

• 🌍 Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary – has two historic forts, and is home to wildlife including tigers leopards

"Bhojpur" can also refer to the ethnolinguistic and cultural area where the Bhojpuri language is spoken as a mother tongue. The Bhojpuri region encompasses parts of the Indian states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand, and the Madhesh, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces of Nepal.

The Bhojpuri language is an eastern Indo-Aryan language and one of the easternmost branches of the Indo-European language family.

Chhath is the biggest festival of the Bhojpuri region. It usually takes place from late October to early November. Chhath involves worshipping and thanking the sun god Surya for bestowing the riches of life on earth.
